Week 10 Review: Just a Substitute Teacher...
The author of the blog, Just a Substitute Teacher... has been working as a substitute for fourteen years in California. After subbing for so many years, he firmly believes that he has experienced many of the interesting situations in the classroom.
One entry describes his attempt to call roll at the beginning of class. A girl's name was Iysis. He asks the class how to pronounce the name, making a joke out of the matter, hoping that it is not pronounced the same as ISIS. Turns out...ISIS is the correct pronunciation for this girl's name, Iysis. Lovely.
Another story involves worms, chocolate, and Christmas. When this teacher journeyed to the lounge after New Year's break, there was a bowl of chocolates that were noted: Help yourself. He thought, OK! and proceeded to help himself to the Christmas or New Year's chocolates. Walking back to the classroom, he heard two teachers talking about the same chocolates having little white worms in them. He was bummed.
Reading this blog has been beneficial to me as a future teacher. It will be important to make notes about how to pronounce the students' names and what chocolates to avoid in the teacher's lounge.
