Tech Edge: iPads in the Classroom
For my review this week, I found a video on Tech Edge. It was all about apps that can be used for rest and relaxation, which is crucial for everyone. Students, teachers, and everyone on the planet needs to have time to detox. I opened up the Edtech video with no expectations.
Epic Zen Garden
Whomever said nothing in life is free? They haven't heard of the Zen app from Epic Games, Inc. It is an adventure that will take you into a calm oasis. The app shows a beautiful environment. Navigate the area by tapping and dragging to discover more. Swiping across a tree, magically grows cherry blossoms, fish surface a koi pond with a tap, and touching the well reveals an overflow of butterflies.
This was updated in 2014, and is rated appropriate for family sharing. In a classroom, I would use this app when students were having "one of those days." In order for them to settle down before anything productive can take place, they would click on the zen app and explore for five minutes before drawing their attention back to the lessons.

Colorfy: Coloring Book for Adults
Coloring books are fun for everyone, especially because their capacity to release anxiety. This free app has several works of art, outlines of flowers, animals, or actual works of art. Easily, I was able to color in a page by selecting a section and pouring color into it. I would venture to say that it was even more relaxing than holding a book and patiently coloring!
If it couldn't get any better, the app allows you to save your artwork and post it for the world to see! Teachers can use this app to engage students in art. It would be a phenomenal brain break or inside recess activity for when the cold weather hits! |
