CKV; St. John the Baptist Catholic Church
Reflection:
The Celebrate Kansas Voices assignment is one that I thoroughly enjoyed. I am extremely blessed to have this gem of a church in my hometown of Beloit, Kansas. Once I heard that this project was all about telling a story, this is the first thing that came to my mind. I am 6th generation Catholic from this town in the middle of nowhere, north central Kansas. It is through this school and parish that I was formed to become who I am today. That is why it was a no-brainer to do some research on St. John the Baptist Catholic school and parish.
I conducted an interview with my dad, Doug Eilert. He is a graduate of St. John's Catholic Schools and a current parishoner. It was enlightening to hear the history of the church from a primary source. My great-great grandfather was one of the parishoners that helped build the church. This heritage is one that I am extremely proud of.
After the interview was finished, I uploaded the voice recording to iMovie. I went around the church and took pictures along with video to capture its beauty. After the pictures were taken, I did some online searching to find older pictures that I remember receiving in high school. I compiled it all in iMovie, adding it together as I went. I made the slides with information on the ExplainEverything app. It was an easy way to put quick facts together in a presentable fashion. For the slide that introduces my dad, I used PicCollage to put text and images all in one shot. I could have done all the slide in either PicCollage, or ExplainEverything, but I liked the different formats for my different purposes.
It was frustrating to use iMovie initially. I did not have a lot of previous experience. I asked my brother and my friend on how to move a sound clip or how to fade out the music. They were happy to help and I was happy to have human resources that pointed me in the right direction. Now, I am confident in iMovie and I will be more likely to use it in the future.
