Review 14: Shelly Fryer
Shelly Fryer is a pioneer for A Plus Schools. She advocates for a classroom that emphasizes the arts, curriculum, experiential learning, multiple learning pathways, enriched assessment, collaboration, infrastructure, and climate. The blog post that our class read is titled Technology 101 Skills for Teachers. She says on her blog entry:
I am convinced technology tools should be used to enhance and amplify student creativity. |
Shelly strongly believes that technology is being successful in the classroom when it becomes the tool for students to create, explore, and become the drivers in their own learning. She states that in order to have A Plus Classroom, teachers need to have their own iPads. Then, educators need to become familiar with the lingo of technology. This will enable the direction of lessons and procedures to go smoothly, while teaching the students how to properly use their own technology.
I will be more open about using technology in my classroom after reading Shelly's blog post. I am on the conservative side of technology when it comes to education. I think that students are definitely engaged and excited about technology, but they also need to learn how to use a dictionary, encyclopedia, and look up cold hard facts from actual BOOKS! I will need to be creative in how I incorporate both book and technology, while providing real-life experiences for my future students. I am excited to become a teacher because I know that this challenge will push me to become not only the best teacher that I can be, but also the person that I am capable of being. Shelley, thank you for the challenge...I accept.
